Upi payment for Indian tourist in uae
If you are an Indian tourist travelling to UAE, you can now use your existing UPI (Unified Payments Interface) app for shopping, dining and exploring tourist attractions.
How is this feature helpful?
This feature is very useful when you don’t always carry cash or physical credit cards. Indian tourists can make payments using their favorite UPI app, such as PhonePe or Google Pay, linked to their Indian bank account. All transactions will be processed in Indian Rupees (INR) only, and will be clearly visible on the machine at the time of payment.
Is UPI accepted everywhere in UAE?
UPI transactions can only be done at Mashreq’s NEOPAY Terminals, which are available at a number of retail and dining outlets and tourist attractions. NEOPAY is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mashreqbank and offers UPI QR payments in the UAE.
How to identify?
You can usually see a sign at the checkout counter indicating that the shop or restaurant accepts UPI payments.

This facility has been made possible due to the collaboration between Mashreq Bank and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) in April 2024.
How to use UPI payments in UAE?
To use UPI, you need to activate ‘International UPI’, which you can do by following these steps on your PhonePe or Google Pay app:
For Google Pay:
- Open the Google Pay app.
- Tap Scan QR code.
- Scan the international merchant’s QR code displayed at the checkout counter or hold your phone over the POS machine.
- Enter the amount in payable foreign currency.
- Select the bank account you want to use to pay the international merchant.
- This debit will be in Indian currency, inclusive of foreign exchange rate and applicable bank charges.
- Tap the Activate UPI International button.
Important Note: Activation for international transactions expires after seven days, after which you can activate it again.
For PhonePe:
- Tap your profile picture on the home screen of the PhonePe app.
- Tap International under the Payment Management section.
- Tap Activate next to the bank account you want to make international UPI payments from.
- Enter your UPI PIN.
After activating this feature, you can continue transacting using UPI in UAE.
