Sanjay Gandhi Ward’s big victory: Officials came, gave written assurance to complete all water related works in 30 days, strike postponed for 1 month


Jabalpur. Demand for tap in every house and water in every tap in Sanjay Gandhi ward Councilor Kaleem Khan, who was on an indefinite hunger strike over the issue, has postponed his strike for one month on the written assurance of Municipal Corporation officials in the presence of about 400 people of the ward.
Councilor Kaleem Khan told on Thursday Municipal Corporation officials came to the protest site and in the presence of about 400 people of the ward, they asked for 30 days’ time and gave a written assurance to complete all the pending water related works within this period. After which the strike was postponed for 1 month. Kaleem said that if the demands of the ward are not met in these 30 days then On the 31st day, we will sit on hunger strike in front of the Municipal Corporation premises, Commissioner’s office.

Here Kaleem Khan thanked all the residents of the ward for their cooperation.
Whereas Kalim said, “The water problem in Sanjay Gandhi ward will be completely resolved before the end of 2024. This is my promise to myself and the people of my ward. Even if they have to go to any extent for this.”
It is noteworthy that on Thursday, Additional Commissioner Vajpayee and Executive Engineer (Water Department) reached the protest site and assured the people of Sanjay Gandhi Ward that the tank will be filled up to 6 meters within a month. The expansion of the remaining pipeline will also be completed in a month. On which councilor Kaleem Khan said that if this work is not done within a month then On the 1st of the month, he will sit on a hunger strike in front of the Municipal Corporation Commissioner’s office in the Municipal Corporation premises.

Councillor Kaleem Khan said at the protest site, 40% of the population of Sanjay Gandhi Ward lives on hills where supply of water is a big problem in itself. The tank has been operational for the last 6 months. But only 2.5 to 3 meters of water is being supplied, which is less than the capacity, and that too is supplied once in two days. Whereas 6 meters of water should be supplied at both the times. For tap in every house and water in every tap, a letter was written to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner on 22nd August, informing him about the problems of the ward and warning of indefinite hunger strike if cognizance is not taken. After which I started the hunger strike yesterday. On Thursday, Additional Commissioner of Jabalpur Municipal Corporation and Executive Minister Water Department Municipal Corporation were present to end this hunger strike and gave a written assurance of completing all the work within 30 days.
