Preparations for a big change in the rights of the Wakf Board, the Wakf Act Amendment Act may come in the House next week

New Delhi (EMS). The central government is now going to make major changes in the powers and rights of the Waqf Board. Sources said that the Cabinet discussed 40 changes in the Waqf Act on Friday evening. This also includes checking the jurisdiction of the Waqf Board, which controls properties worth lakhs of crores of rupees across the country. Two provisions of mandatory verification of properties, which will curb the powers of the Waqf Board, are the major amendments proposed in the Act. More than 8.7 lakh properties across the country, totaling about 9.4 lakh acres, are under the jurisdiction of the Waqf Board.

We will have to wait to see whether these changes will prove to be beneficial for the Waqf Board or will prove to be a way to increase government interference in Waqf properties. But looking at the attitude of the Central Government till now in matters related to the minority community, it is natural for the Muslim community to be worried.
