Now student groups clash over Jai Shri Ram slogan in Karnataka college

Two groups of students clashed during the practice of the annual e-biz festival at Gurunanak Engineering College in Bidar, Karnataka. The ruckus in the college took place last afternoon following which an FIR was filed against 17 Muslim students. According to reports, the controversy erupted when a provocative song titled ‘Bharat ka bachcha, bachcha Jai Shri Ram bolega’ was played to allegedly vitiate the atmosphere of the event and some students also chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ after some students objected to the song. As a result, a clash broke out between the two groups following the IR filed.

Bidar Deputy Commissioner Govind Reddy told the media that the clash took place during a ‘practice session’ of the youth festival on May 31. During the practice, both the artists chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as part of their play. This was objected to by some students from the other community, resulting in a clash between the students. Soon more students joined the fray, leading to a massive clash with scuffles and brawls.

According to Deputy Commissioner Reddy, the situation is now completely under control and there is no need to impose prohibitory orders. Police presence has been increased around the college to maintain security.

In response to the incident, the college administration has decided to cancel the upcoming youth festival. The students who chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ were taken to the hospital for examination after a medico-legal case was registered, although there were no internal injuries.
