Loudspeakers on mosques – Collector should consider the applications and give decision within 60 days, High Court

Indore. In the matter of removal of loudspeakers installed on mosques, the High Court has directed the collector to consider the applications submitted against the removal of loudspeakers from religious places within 60 days and decide on these applications in the light of the Supreme Court guidelines. Also tell the applicant the basis for accepting or rejecting the application.

The High Court gave this decision while hearing the petition of petitioner Allanur Abbasi, resident of Azad Nagar. The petitioner had said in his petition submitted to the High Court that the police had removed the loudspeakers installed at Azad Nagar Mosque citing the order of the state government. After hearing both the parties in the case, the High Court dismissed the petition saying that the petitioner should submit a new application in this regard to the Collector Indore and the District Collector should take a decision on this application within 60 days as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
