Emergency cabinet meeting after coup in Bangladesh


New Delhi. After the coup and political upheaval in the neighboring country Bangladesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security at his official residence in the evening. The situation in Bangladesh was discussed in detail in the meeting. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar presented information on important aspects of the matter. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to resign from her post and leave the country amid massive protests and violence by students demanding the abolition of reservation in jobs in Bangladesh.

There was an intense discussion in the cabinet meeting on external and internal security. Foreign Minister Jaishankar gave detailed information to Prime Minister Modi about the situation in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Modi was accompanied by Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in this meeting. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has also spoken to Foreign Minister Jaishankar.
Meanwhile, the government has issued a special warning for the northeastern states along the Bangladesh border. The Border Security Force has increased vigilance on the 4096 km long India-Bangladesh border in view of the Bangladesh incident. ‘High alert’ has been issued for all units of the army. BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary and other senior commanders have reached Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, to review the security situation.
He reviewed the security preparations in North 24 Parganas district and Sundarban area. In view of the changing situation in Bangladesh, BSF has issued an alert on the entire India-Bangladesh border. The number of soldiers deployed on the border has been increased. The leaves of all the personnel deployed on the border with the neighboring country have been canceled. All units have been asked to remain fully alert.
A ‘high alert’ has been issued on the India-Bangladesh border in Karimganj, Assam. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has also imposed prohibitory orders on the border from Monday night.
When Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reached Hindon Air Force Station, she was welcomed by India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and senior Air Force officials. During this, a long conversation took place between Hasina and Doval. No official information has been given by the army or the government about the conversation.
