Delhi riots 2020: Investigation into the death of a Muslim youth handed over to the CBI

The cruel face of Delhi Police came to the fore during the riots in the country’s capital Delhi in 2022, where 23-year-old Faizan and his companions were brutally beaten by the policemen and forced to sing the national anthem in an injured state. Faizan later died. The video of the incident went viral on social media and now the Delhi High Court has handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI.
According to the report, Justice Anup Jai Ram Bhambhani, while hearing the case, has handed over the investigation from Delhi Police to CBI. The court said that the incident falls under the category of hate crime and yet the police investigation is slow and incomplete. The court also said that the suspects (police officers) who attacked Faizan have been forgiven. According to the court, what is worse is that the suspects (police officers) were given the responsibility to act as the guardians of the law. They were in a position of power and authority, but it seems that they were influenced by a rigid mindset. The court concluded that the investigation of Delhi Police does not inspire confidence, its action has been very slow and very little so far.
The Delhi High Court says that the reason for taking the right to investigate the case from the Delhi Police is that the law enforcers themselves are accused of violating it. The perpetrators of the crime are themselves members of the agency investigating it. This situation does not inspire confidence. Apart from this, many flaws and irregularities have been seen in the investigation done so far by the Delhi Police. Therefore, the court ordered the transfer of responsibility of investigation and said that if the CBI finds any other crime, it can add it to the FIR.
