If not Muharram, then Kanwar Yatra and Ramlila should also not take place: Muslim Personal Law Board

Lucknow. UP CM Yogi’s statement regarding Muharram has created a ruckus. All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) member Kamal Farooqui has reacted sharply on the Uniform Civil Code. He says that if Muharram does not happen, then Kanwar Yatra, Ramlila etc. should also not happen. There should not be any religious program on the road. Ramlila should also be stopped. There cannot be different rules for everyone. In this country, Hindus, Muslims, Christians are all equal.

Kamal Farooqui said that we do not accept UCC under any circumstances and they will challenge this law in the court. He said that any kind of interference in the personal law of Muslims is not acceptable. He said that Uniform Civil Code is not a part of the Constitution, so we do not accept it. Farooqui said that the Constitution gives us complete freedom to follow our religion. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians etc. can follow their religion.

He said that we have got personal law from the constitution, which is mentioned in our Quran, we do not want any kind of interference in it, we will challenge the law made against it. On the court’s decision to give alimony to Muslim women after divorce, he said that for this our working committee has met and it has been discussed how to react to this decision in the Supreme Court.
