11 Congress MLAs suspended for walking out of the House

Ahmedabad. Gujarat Assembly Speaker on Thursday suspended 11 MLAs of opposition party Congress for a day for walking out. On the second day of the three-day monsoon session, the opposition party MLAs wanted to ask some questions, but Speaker Shankar Chaudhary rejected their demand. After this, the Congress MLAs started walking out of the House. After the MLAs walked out, the Speaker suspended all of them for a day.

Earlier, Congress leader Amit Chavda and others displayed placards carrying slogans such as give justice to Rajkot fire victims, curb drug menace and take action against land mafia. Chavda said the party had submitted 12 short notices to the assembly secretariat before the monsoon session began but not a single question was discussed. “The two questions that were discussed today were from BJP MLAs. We were not even told why our questions were not taken up. We demand an explanation from the BJP government and its minister,” the Congress leader added.

Senior Congress MLA Shelesh Parmar claimed that the question asked by party MLA Gulab Singh Chauhan about the controversial sale of agricultural land in Dahod was rejected at the last moment. The Speaker said that minority questions would be selected for discussion only after the consent of the concerned minister. Minister Balvantsinh Rajput clarified that the issue raised by Chauhan was sub-judice and it is not right to discuss it before the court. Not satisfied with the clarification, Chavda and other leaders started showing placards and walked out of the House. After the walkout of Congress MLAs, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rushikesh Patel appealed to the Speaker to suspend all 11 MLAs. The proposal to suspend the Congress MLA for the rest of the day was approved by a majority. Four Aam Aadmi Party MLAs did not give their consent. Let us tell you that the monsoon session of the Gujarat Assembly is going to end on Friday.
