Moscow. PM Narendra Modi visited Russia yesterday. In Moscow, he met Russian President Vladimir Putin. During this, PM Modi raised the issue of Indian citizens trapped in the Russian army, on which Putin said that Russia will help them return to India. After the PM’s visit to Russia, a video of an Indian citizen fighting for the Russian army has surfaced, in which he is seen saying that out of 15 non-Russian soldiers in his team, only two are alive. He hopes that after PM Modi’s meeting with Putin, he will be able to return to his country.

The Indian man whose video has surfaced from the Russian army is named Urgyen Tamang and he is a resident of Kalimpong in West Bengal. He was taken to Russia by deceit and was also recruited in the army and was thrown into the Russia-Ukraine war. Urgyen told that he has been fighting for the Russian army for the last six months. The agents had promised him a job as a security guard in Russia but when he reached Russia, he was sent to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Kalimpong Pradhan said that he keeps talking to Urgyen through WhatsApp but we and his family do not even know if we will be able to see Urgyen again. Kalimpong Municipality Chairman Rabi Pradhan was asked for help. Pradhan contacted the Ministry of External Affairs and the matter has been taken up with the Indian Embassy in Moscow for necessary assistance.

In the video message, Urgen said that I am trapped in the Russia-Ukraine war. There were 15 non-Russians here, but 13 have been killed. The only two left are me and a person from Sri Lanka. He said that I am happy that I am alive and I want to go back to my country. I appeal to the authorities to please get me and other Indians released. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.
